After two years of research, the Villa Paloma and the Villa Sauber are presenting an exhibition of architecture, town planning and urbanisation in Monaco, 1858 to 2012
It took the New National Museum of Monaco (NMNM) two years to study, catalogue and gather together the documents on architecture and town planning in the Principality.
The result is revealed in the exhibition "Monacopolis - Architecture, Town Planning and Urbanisation in Monaco, Achievements and Projects, 1858 – 2012," which is based on three main themes: buildings that were never constructed, buildings that have been demolished, and present-day buildings.
Images of today's urbanisation were taken using aerial photography.
The Villa Sauber is presenting a tour of the Monte-Carlo district (more than 600 historic maps and numerous models are on show). The Villa Paloma is exhibiting projects that were never carried out and proposed solutions that are imaginative and spontaneous. Of note are a rather mysterious little sketch by Le Corbusier and proposals for urban expansion by the London-based group Archigram.
Finally, the "Off Circuit" programme is an opportunity to see this exhibition in a different way each time, from 19th January and on a regular basis, thanks to the architects, artists, musicians, writers and historians who have been invited by the NMNM, and will make everyone's memories of the city even more vivid.
